About the Artist

My work is a search for something precious. It reaches out for the familiar: the farm in Ontario that I grew up on; places I consider sacred; and my friends and family. Even so, the process of creating often reveals something unforeseen. Paint, mixed materials and poetry are the eyes though which I explore these complexities of reality.

I collect the skills to bring things to life in a multitude of ways. My favored art forms are oil paint, poetry, drawing, and aqueous media, and have ventured into the world of sculpture, photography, ceramics, and screenprinting on fabric. I love to work from life, seeing things through my own eyes, in my own body.

I am inspired by the land I know so closely and art created to reflect it by Canadian artists including Elizabeth Nutt and Emily Carr. The Sublime also inspires my work: the fearsome majesty of the unknowable, historically depicted in vast landscapes by artists such as Caspar David Friedrich. My work is affected by these inspirations. The painting-based show with Rebecca Strong, Seasons Change, explores growth, cyclical patterns, and sensory experience, manifesting in art that was born from an intimacy with the land instilled in us since youthhood.

I am currently working towards an exhibition that dwells within the theme “Thin Spaces:” a place where the unknowable intersects with the familiar and where the spiritual is tangible in the atmosphere. Through art, I aim to ground us in the fullness of human experience and remind us of the rich beauty that exists just beyond the veil.
